“'Cause I believe when we drift away we're gonna find another place to dance.

Rest in peace Dave Mason. So sorry to say he is gone at 79.

On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Dave Mason. On Sunday, April 19, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, celebrated songwriter, musician, singer, and author passed away peacefully at his home in Gardnerville, NV. He is survived by his beloved wife and partner, Winifred Wilson, his daughter Danielle, nephew John (Trish) Leonard and niece Michelle Leonard, as well as his brothers in law Sloan (Claudia) Wilson and Walton (Barbara Sims) Wilson. He was preceded in death by his son, True and his sister, Valerie Leonard.

Dave Mason lived a remarkable life devoted to the music and the people he loved.

DAVE MASON IS GONE… BUT “WE JUST DISAGREE” STILL SOUNDS LIKE AN UNFINISHED FAREWELL.

On August 18, 2024, Dave Mason’s final concert took place in Plainfield, Indiana, and fans had no idea they were witnessing a momentous occasion in rock history. The song, released in 1977, wasn’t a loud, heart-wrenching lament—but a mature grief, a kind of acceptance of loss without anger. Now, after Mason’s death on April 19, 2026, at age 79, those words sound even heavier. He was a co-founder of Traffic, helped shape classic rock, played alongside legends, and left behind songs that didn’t need shouting to be remembered. “We Just Disagree” remains his gentlest wound: a dignified, silent, and graceful farewell. Several artists left the stage. Dave Mason left behind an emotion.

Original oldies music

Even in his 80s, Paul McCartney still holds a special interest in the artists who have contributed to the soul of classic rock. And when mentioning Dave Mason, Paul once shared that Dave is an artist whose style "never needs to try to come back, so the music speaks for itself." Paul particularly admires Dave Mason's emotionally expressive guitar playing, especially his unique blend of rock, blues, and folk. He also reminded Dave of his contributions to the legendary recordings of the 60s and 70s, which helped shape an entire generation of music. For Paul, Dave is not just a talented guitarist, but an artist who always puts genuine emotion into every melody. Many people are even more enthusiastic seeing Paul's sincere words for Dave Mason, an artist who may not be the most talked-about in the media, but is highly respected by legends in the industry. In Paul McCartney's eyes, Dave Mason has always been a beautiful part of classic rock fiction from the golden age.
